Directed by David Tedeschi and produced by Martin Scorsese, Margaret Bodde, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Olivia Harrison, Sean Ono Lennon, Jonathan Clyde, and Mikaela Beardsley, with Jeff Jones and Rick Yorn as executive producers, Beatles '64 is a must-watch for fans old and new, offering a fresh perspective on a historic moment in music history.
The Greatness of "The"
Ah, the humble yet powerful word “the.” It’s omnipresent, gracing our sentences with a dash of specificity and flair. From the sun to the moon, the internet to the sky, and the earth itself, “the” stands guard as a sentinel of importance.
Let’s embark on a whimsical journey through the annals of “the,” starting with the legendary San Francisco music venue, The Fillmore. When Bill Graham decided to spread his musical magic to New York City, he dubbed the new venue Fillmore East, not The Fillmore East. Back on the West Coast, after the original Fillmore closed its doors on Geary Street, Graham opened Fillmore West at Market and Van Ness, again opting to drop “the.”
And then there’s the Grateful Dead. Sometimes they’re the good ol’ Grateful Dead, other times just Grateful Dead. It’s as if the band itself couldn’t decide whether to embrace the definitive article or shun it altogether.
In the realm of retail, we have a similar tale. Most shoppers refer to their favorite DIY store as Home Depot, but its official moniker is The Home Depot. It seems even corporate giants can’t escape the allure (or confusion) of “the.”
So, let’s celebrate “the” for what it is: a small word with a big impact. Use it when it fits, embrace it when it’s necessary, and remember that even the smallest words can make the biggest difference. After all, without “the,” where would the sun, the moon, the internet, the sky, and the earth be?
A Spat For Every Occasion
The word “spat” indeed has multiple meanings, and understanding the context is key to differentiating between them. Here are the primary meanings of “spat” and how to distinguish them based on context:
1. Footwear (spats): Refers to a type of covering worn over shoes, often by military personnel or gangsters for an intimidating look.
• Context Clues: Look for references to clothing, historical periods, fashion, or military uniform.
• Example: “He polished his spats before heading to the 1920s-themed party.”
2. To Spit (past tense): The past tense of “to spit,” meaning to eject saliva from the mouth.
• Context Clues: Look for mentions of physical actions involving the mouth, saliva, or expressions of disdain.
• Example: “After tasting the spoiled milk, he spat it out immediately.”
3. Lover’s Spat: A minor quarrel or argument, often between lovers or close friends.
• Context Clues: Look for interpersonal conflict, relationships, emotions, or dialogue.
• Example: “They had a brief spat over dinner but made up quickly.”
To effectively determine which meaning of “spat” is intended, pay close attention to the surrounding words and the overall subject matter being discussed.
And….there was a even a band named The Spats who performed on American Bandstand

The Legacy of Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band
Formed in the early 1960s by art students Vivian Stanshall and Rodney Slater, the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band began as a jazz ensemble parodying 1920s and 30s music. They quickly evolved, blending slapstick comedy, music hall, psychedelia, and more, becoming pioneers in rock and comedy. Their satirical songs and eccentric performances made them favorites in London’s underground scene and national stars on the TV show "Do Not Adjust Your Set." Their hit "I'm the Urban Spaceman," produced by Paul McCartney, remains a classic.
Madfish Music's spokesperson shared their excitement: "We know Bonzo’s fans will be thrilled with this release. It includes remasters of original albums, rare outtakes, BBC Sessions, and live recordings. 'Still Barking' is the definitive tribute to a band that left an indelible mark on music and comedy."

Black Sabbath, The Doors and the Ronnettes each have a song that opens with a similarity. What is it?
The answer will appear in the next MusicWire...
The trivia question from the last MusicWire was:
Six months before folk-rock became a national sensation with groups like The Byrds and Buffalo Springfield, this group was written up in the Los Angeles Times and pegged as being a “folk-rock” group.
ANSWER: The Men
After a gig by resident band The Men in 1964, Bob Dylan comes onstage for an impromptu “folk-twist” jam session – attended only by Troubadour staff. Shortly afterward, Dylan makes pop music history by switching from folk to folk-rock. The Men would dissolve and most of the members formed the chart-topping group The Association.
